Stephen P. Conway

Steve Conway died unexpectedly on September 20, 2024, at the age of 74.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Babylon, New York, Steve was the son of Helen and Leonard Conway, and the little brother to Lenny Conway, born just one year after his brother. Steve moved to Florida in 1968 to attend the University of Miami. After graduating from the University of Miami in 1972, Steve pursued a career in Real Estate, initially in sales, then transitioned into development as a General Contractor. As his career evolved, he became one of the premier luxury home builders on the Treasure Coast - contributing to the development of Martin County and leaving behind a legacy that will forever be a part of the place he loved to call home.

After moving to Stuart in 1981, Steve met his loving wife, Beth, kicking off their 42 years together. They shared a full life, made of summers traveling to the Bahamas with their children, buying, building, and renovating homes, and of course his animals. He always had a house full of cats and dogs and loved them and talked to them as if they were people.

In addition to Beth, Steve is survived by his beloved children; son Sean (Samantha), daughter Meghan (Chad Miner), his brother Lenny, and a close network of Stuart area friends.

Steve didn’t seek or need credit or praise. He was a man who loved with his whole heart and was a role model to many, even without knowing it. He had many people who cherished his support and influence. Steve instilled his passion for construction into his son Sean, who went on into the commercial construction field, and his daughter Meghan, who went on into residential real estate. His pride for his family showed through in almost every conversation. He always focused on getting the job done and making good things happen for family, friends, and clients. Steve was mister “fix-it”.

He loved the ocean - on, in, or under. He was an accomplished fisherman and captain, embarking on many adventures, especially throughout the Bahamas and Caribbean in pursuit of tranquility and paradise, and a good Goombay Smash. It was his time to think about nothing but what was in

the moment.

Steve was quick to laugh, and an engaging storyteller, eveready with a fun one-liner. He loved injecting a just sayin’ into any conversation, always using his hands to provide emphasis. Sometimes we questioned the accuracy as his friends and family always recounted the event in a less exciting way - leading to a room full of laughter. He was a generous teacher, always meticulous, respected both for the loyalty he demonstrated alongside the quality of what he produced.

His word was his bond. Those who knew and loved him are better for the shared journey. He will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Treasure Coast, specifically their Grief Counseling services, as they’ve been supportive to the Conway family throughout this unimaginable and unexpected time. In addition to Hospice of the Treasure Coast, Steve’s wife Beth is a founding member of the Junior League of Martin County, a non-profit supporting women and children in our community, where donations can also be made.
