A Life Well-Lived
Sigurd Halvorsen, age 93, affectionately known as Siggy, passed away peacefully at Harper House at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, FL on Friday, January 24, 2025. He lived a life filled with love, generosity and unforgettable memories.
Born in Norway, on April 9, 1931, Siggy spent his early years on a farm. He left Norway as a teen-ager during the German occupation and sailed the world on commercial vessels for the next 15 years. Siggy visited many countries on all 7 continents and shared stories with family ranging from his experiences at the Egyptian pyramids to working on a whaling boat in Antarctica.
He settled in Brooklyn, NY in the late 1950s where he met his wife, Janet. They were married more than 40 years before her passing in 2001. Together, they built a life with their son and daughter in New York, Toms River, NJ, and finally Port St. Lucie, FL.
After Janet’s passing, Siggy found companionship with Marie Collamer in 2002. Their bond was a source of comfort and joy until Marie’s passing in 2023.
Siggy was a man of great character. His grandson, Richard, described him best: “He was a great man who wanted nothing and would give anything."
He leaves behind a family who adored him and countless friends who treasured his company. Left to cherish fond memories are his daughter Darlene Halvorsen-Linn, son Dennis Tretheway, son-in-law Devin Linn, Sr., daughter-in-law Elisa Sullivan, special daughter Mary Ellen Justi, grandsons Richard Tretheway and Christopher Tretheway, two great granddaughters and a great-great granddaughter as well as his extended family Suzanne Anderson, Daniel Collamer and their loved ones.
As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his beloved Janet and Marie. His legacy of love, generosity, and kindness will continue to inspire and guide us.
A humble man, Siggy did not want a memorial service. At his request, the family will scatter his ashes privately at the resting place of his wife Janet.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sigurd’s honor to Treasure Coast Hospice for the in-patient unit ensuring that others can receive the compassionate care he did in his final days or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
