Mary Sanders

Mary Magdalene (Wright) Sanders, a longtime resident of Stuart, FL, passed away on the morning of September 12, 2024, at Discovery Village in Stuart. She was 82.

Born in Elkhorn City, KY, on January 2, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Tootsie (Blankenship) Wright. After growing up in the heart of Appalachia, she attained a degree in nursing and married the late Raymond R. Sanders with whom she raised two boys. After living in Chicago and Canton, OH, the family moved to Tupelo where Mary owned a Christian bookstore. In 1998, they relocated to Jensen Beach, FL, fulfilling one of Mary’s lifelong dreams.

Mary always had a heart for adventure, a spirit filled with good humor and a laugh that was infectious. Her happy disposition was marked by a sharp wit and a heart of gold. She loved her family and friends and radiated a joy that spread to all who spent time with her.

She cherished her life in South Florida and enjoyed painting, thrift shopping, fishing, dancing, and music, and was a huge fan of Tom Jones and B.J. Thomas. In her later years, her dog Beau was her constant companion.

She attended First United Methodist Church in Stuart.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Wright, a sister, Kathryn (Wright) Hackney and a niece, Pamela (Davis) Hubbard.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Sanders, of Mississippi, Kevin (Virginia) Sanders of Stuart; a twin sister, Molly (Wright) Davis, of Sunbury, OH; a brother, Ardy C. Wright (Betty) of Lexington, KY; two grandsons, Benton Sanders and Alex Sanders (Rebecka); four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, at All Saints Episcopal Church Cemetery in Jensen Beach, FL.
