Marjorie A. Sweeney

Marjorie A. Sweeney (Kasner), 87, passed away at her home in Jensen Beach, Florida on Monday, July 1, 2024.

Marjorie was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 3, 1936, to Anthony and Margaret (Petrosh) Kasner. She was raised on the South Side. After completing high school, Marjorie graduated from Mundelein College (now Loyola University Chicago) in 1958. While in college, she met the love of her life, Bertram “Bud” Sweeney. They married in Chicago in 1959 and started a family. In 1970, Marjorie and Bud moved to Stuart, Florida, where they raised their 3 daughters.

Marjorie worked as a substitute teacher at Jensen Beach Elementary School for many years. In 1979, Marjorie began teaching 4th grade at JBE, where she remained for 20 years, retiring in 1999. For many years after retirement, Marjorie enjoyed lunching with fellow retired teachers in the Red Hat Society. Marjorie’s passion was travel, and along with Bud she saw the world! She loved photographing their travels and kept detailed photo albums that she enjoyed sharing with her children and grandchildren.

Marjorie was a dear and gentle woman and family was her most cherished treasure, always telling her family that because of them she was “the luckiest woman in the world.”

Marjorie was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Bud, her father and mother, and brother, Donald Kasner. She leaves behind daughters, Donna Shurr (Randy), Kathy O’Hanna, Lauryn Sweeney (Merle Pabst), grandchildren, Racquel O’Hanna, Kelsey Mulvanerton (Austin), Haley O’Hanna, Anson Shurr, Tessa Shurr, and many nieces and nephews.

Marjorie will be missed greatly, and her life will be celebrated with a private family gathering.
