Lee Warren Skidmore was born May 4th, 1930 in Glen Ridge, N.J. His elementary schooling was in Verona, N.J. and he attended high school in Caldwell, N.J. He went on to the University of Maryland, graduating in June 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business. After completing ROTC, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force and served two years at command headquarters, Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama.
While in the service, he was ordered to go to Camp Desert Rock, Nevada to participate in an atomic bomb test. He was in an open trench 4000 yards from ground zero. It was a 20 kiloton bomb (the same size as the bomb used at Hiroshima) and the sage brush was burning around the trench area from the heat. After the shock wave passed, they all had to go to ground zero.
After discharge he joined his father's insurance brokerage business, Davis, Dorland & Co., and commuted to the World Trade Center in New York City for 35 years. He retired December 1988 and moved to Boynton Beach, Florida in 1989. June 6/7 1952 was a busy weekend. Warren was commissioned Friday evening, graduated from college Saturday morning and got married to Ann Lee Kreuzer that afternoon. They had two daughters, Patricia Diane and Bonnie Jean. His wife Ann died in 2008. Shortly thereafter, he met Teresa Kish and they got married in February 2010. Both of them eloped for their first marriages, so Terry wanted a big fancy wedding and reception, which they certainly had. They bought their own house and sold several other homes all in their first year of marriage. They enjoyed cruising and cruised a total of 280 days during their 10 years together. Teresa died just after they celebrated their 10th anniversary.
Warren was predeceased by his two daughters and is survived by 3 grandkids, 7 great grandkids, and 5 great-great grandkids.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11am at the Mariner Sands Chapel, 6500 SE Congressional Way, Stuart, FL 34997.
