John Bartoo Loveland, 95, of Hobe Sound, passed away peacefully December 16, 2023, surrounded by his family. John was born in Buffalo, NY February 17, 1928, the son of George West Loveland and Carlotta Bartoo Loveland and grew up in the Allentown neighborhood of Buffalo, NY. He enlisted for a short time into the US Navy at the end of World War II. He attended Dartmouth College, then enlisted in the United States Air Force at the outbreak of the Korean War. Mr. Loveland served with the 35th Fighter Wing in Suwon Korea, returning home as a highly decorated veteran of over one hundred combat missions. His depression era childhood and intense war experiences set his optimistic and determined demeanor for the rest of his life.

During this time, John sold insurance and investment products, earned his Chartered Life Underwriter, founded and operated his own independent insurance agency for decades. He focused on providing financial stability for the blue collar workers of the Midwest industrial belt through credit unions. He continued to fly privately, then moved on to his love of boating. He sailed Lake Michigan as an officer of the Chicago Corinthian Yacht club, then moved on to motor yachts in Baltimore and Stuart. John and Diana retired to Palm City in 1988 and Hobe Sound in 1998. John spent his later years quietly enjoying his home and family and the company of friends at the Stuart Coffee Club.
