James “Jim” J. Powers, 86, of Stuart, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who will be dearly missed. Jim was born December 29, 1937, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to James and Margaret Powers. He was the middle child of three children.

Jim married his beloved wife Maureen on November 5, 1960. They had two children, Jamie and James. Jim graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School and afterward enlisted and served in the United States Army Reserve. He went on to a successful forty-year career in commercial banking, working for Colonial First National, First Fidelity, and Midlantic Bank in New Jersey. He was an esteemed colleague, and many sought his counsel on account of his integrity and sound judgment.

Jim and his wife Maureen retired to Mariner Sands Country Club in Stuart, Florida, where he served on the Mariner Sands Board of Governors. He and Maureen also maintained a second home in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Jim enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and spending precious time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Jack and Ava, whom he adored.

Jim had an unwavering lifelong faith and trust in God. He was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner at St Christopher’s Catholic Church in Hobe Sound. He devoted his time, talent, and resources to many charitable organizations in the community.

Jim is survived by his wife Maureen Powers, daughter Jamie Powers, son James Powers, daughter-in-law Kristen and grandchildren Jack and Ava Powers, sister Peggy Schaab, brother Robert Powers, sister-in-lawBillie Powers, and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Powers, his mother, Margaret Powers, and his brother-in-law, Louis Schaab.

A Requiem Mass will be held at St Christopher’s Catholic Church in Hobe Sound on Thursday, July 25th at 10:30 am.

The Rite of Committal will be held privately at Mariner Sands Memorial Garden.
