James Patrick McGuire, affectionately known as "Jim," passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, leaving behind a legacy defined by love and humor. Born in Brooklyn, New York on March 22, 1943, Jim lived a full and vibrant life as a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Jim was renowned for his unique blend of sweetness and sarcasm, a combination that embodied a true Brooklynite that charmed everyone fortunate enough to know him. He proudly served his country, including two tours of Vietnam, as a Seabee in the United States Navy. His military service was a source of immense pride and a defining chapter of his life. Jim was also a proud Local 3 IBEW electrician's union member for 42 years and remained a member even past his retirement while residing in Stuart, Florida. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Linda Reid McGuire, his steadfast partner throughout their many years together. Their love story began in Brooklyn, along with raising their children, while summers were often spent with family upstate in Kingston. Later, they moved to Old Bridge, New Jersey where they embraced life in the suburbs. Jim was the devoted father of his children: James (Christian), Christopher (Kristina), Thomas (Brigitte), and Sean (Julia). Predeceased by his beloved daughter Tara Ann, Jim kept her memory alive in his heart every day. Jim was a doting grandfather to five grandchildren: River, Amelia, Caleb, Kegan, and Margaux. His love for them was boundless, and he found great joy in sharing his stories with them and tinkering with vintage toys for them to play with. He was also "Jimmy", the proud older brother to Lawrence, Maryanne (Billy deceased), and Richard (Trisha). Whether Jim was preparing a fresh salad from the garden, tending to his plants, or on a walk with the dog, he had a knack for making the ordinary extraordinary, teaching life lessons through simple moments. A man of many talents and passions, he loved gardening and cooking, often sharing his wisdom with his family and friends while creating cherished memories. He was a community-minded neighbor who took pride in friendly conversations and lending a helping hand. Jim was also a dedicated father who actively supported his children's sports and other pursuits, fostering a love for activity and teamwork like gathering all four boys for a ride to fill the van with firewood. Known for his hardworking and determined nature, Jim lived life on a schedule, conquering his daily to-do list, always finding time for his famous naps and his 6 p.m. dinners with the love of his life. He was a storyteller at heart, full of humor and history. His love of travel allowed him to explore the world, yet he never lost sight of his day to day activities. A man full of wisdom and an example of how to lead a simple and relaxed lifestyle. His life was a testament to living a daily purpose with love and laughter, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
