Irene Mary Thornton

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Irene Mary Thornton, who fought bravely against an auto-immune disease. Irene passed peacefully on February 12, 2025, while residing at Violet Gardens Assisted Living Facility in Port St. Lucie. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Madeline and Dan MacIsaac and was preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband, Gordon W. Thornton.

Irene is survived by her brother, Dan MacIsaac of Vero Beach, and her two children: her son, Christopher J. Thornton of Hammonton, NJ, and her daughter, Jennifer Schroeder of Jensen Beach, Florida. She also leaves behind her four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A lover of the beach, Irene spent many joyful years in Ship Bottom on Long Beach Island, NJ, before making Vero Beach, FL, her permanent home. Her zest for life was evident in her passion for sports; she was an avid player of tennis, golf, bowling, and bocce ball. Furthermore, she was a founding member and president of the Heritage Plantation Garden Club, where her dedication shone brightly.

In her professional life, Irene excelled in the banking industry, achieving the impressive title of Senior Vice President at both New Jersey National and Wells Fargo banks. Her steadfast work ethic and leadership left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege to work alongside her.

Irene will be missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
