Cynthia Conway Labadie
The Labadie family lost a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Cynthia died peacefully at home surrounded by her family, on January 29, 2024.
Cynthia was born April 25, 1933, in Detroit, the youngest of four children to Fanny and Elmer Conway. She grew up on Grosse Ile, attended Smith College, and graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in political science.
On a beach in Ft. Lauderdale, Cynthia met the love of her life, William (Bill) Labadie, and they married in 1957. For Cynthia, life was all about family. She was totally dedicated to her husband, her children, and her Catholic faith. Cynthia and Bill raised their children on Grosse lle and later moved to Florida living in Stuart and the Key Largo Anglers Club. They also spent countless hours cruising the Great Lakes and the Florida waterways.
Cynthia had a deep love for northern Michigan, and they had a home on Burt Lake where the entire family could gather. The hostess of many parties and family reunions, she took great joy in opening her home to others.
Cynthia is survived by her five children: Lisa Labadie (Michael Koplas), Michelle Hawkins (Joe Hawkins), Suzanne Vanden Bosch (Randy Vanden Bosch), Chris Labadie, Bill Labadie and her ten grandchildren: Katie, Emily, Will, Anna, Chris, Bridget, Cynthia, Annie, Lindsay and Patrick and her great-granddaughter Sophie as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband.
A funeral mass will be held at noon February 24, 2024, at St. Anne Church on Grosse Ile, 21508 East River Road, Grosse Ile, MI, 48138.
