Claudot (Claudet) Mitchell of Stuart, FL passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024, at the Treasure Coast Hospice. Claudot was born on July 27, 1940, in Bridgeport, CT. She was preceded in death by her parents; Claudot Andrew and Gladys McPherson and her younger brother, Malcolm MacPherson.
The McPherson family ventured across the country pulling their camper behind them via rte. 66 to eventually settle in Garden Grove, CA. After many happy years in southern California, Claudot’s parents were tragically killed in a vehicle accident when she was 14 years old. The McPherson children returned to Yalesville, CT to live with their aunt and uncle. After graduating from Lyman Hall High School, Claudot worked as a receptionist and then as a flight attendant with Pan Am. While cruising the Caribbean with her girlfriends, Claudot met and married John Goodwin, retired Navy, and they moved to the Virgin Islands. They spent many happy years hosting charters on their sailboat. In the late 70’s they moved back to the U.S. to build their second boat the “Bluejacket “. Sadly, John passed away before the boat was completed and Claudot and Laura (John’s daughter) worked diligently to finish building the Bluejacket. Claudot returned to Nantucket where she met her love, Whitney Mitchell, to whom she had been married for twenty-seven years. Claudot and Whitney maintained homes in both Stuart, Fl, and Nantucket, MA. Claudot was a dedicated volunteer, gourmet cook, lover of books, art, golf, and old black and white films. After Whitney’s passing, she resided in Stuart with her beloved dog, “Mikey”. Claudot had a host of friends in Nantucket, Stuart, and the “lunch bunch” with whom she maintained a very close relationship.
Claudot is survived by her sister, Mary Ann (McPherson) Sittnick; children, Greta Hols, Andrea Moss, Sara Smith (Scott Smith) and sister-in-law, Joanne (Charlie) MacPherson; children, Molly MacPherson (Matthew Evans) and Fraser MacPherson and numerous great nieces and nephews. Claudot is also survived by the extended family of Whitney Mitchell and John Goodwin.
