Betty Jane Lee

Betty Jane Lee, a long-time resident of both Princeton and Long Beach Island, New Jersey, as well as Palm City, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025.

Betty was born on May 6, 1931, in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, to Louis and Laura Jammer. She grew up alongside her twin brother, Lou, and older sister, Margaret. Her family was fortunate enough to spend the summers at their home in Brant Beach, New Jersey, on Long Beach Island. While there, she developed a love for sailing and became an accomplished racer. She graduated from George School in Newtown, Pennsylvania, in 1948 and continued her studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

She was married to the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Lee, on June 24, 1950. Following their marriage, Betty pursued her professional career as an artist while Bob began his lifelong career with the New Jersey State Police.

Betty was a contemporary artist who gained her inspiration from extensive world travel and her interaction with nature. She was the recipient of the William Emlen Cresson European Travelling Scholarship, which allowed her to begin her travel at a young age and fostered her life-long love of travel. She, along with her husband Bob, would spend the next three decades exploring the world, returning home always with fresh new ideas to inspire her art.

Throughout her life, Betty remained involved in the family business, Jammer Doors, working alongside her mother, brother, husband, and many other friends and family members.

She and Bob moved to Florida in 1996 following the death of her mother. There, they became avid golfers and enjoyed the sunshine. Each summer, she and Bob would return to their home in Brant Beach on her beloved Long Beach Island. Following Bob’s death in 2005, Betty became a resident of Sand Hill Cove in Palm City, Florida.

Betty lived a long and full life, spending her final years in the loving care of her niece and godchild, Dana Jammer Weyrick. She and Dana spent many days reminiscing about sailing and family while overlooking the beautiful St. Lucie River, sketching and dreaming of returning to Long Beach Island.

Preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee, as well as her twin brother Louis “Lou” Jammer, Jr. She is survived by her sister Margaret Sellers, her cousin and lifelong friend Nancy Jammer Naeve, and her cousin Arthur McTighe. Betty is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews: Dana Weyrick and her partner Gary Cruzan, Sherry Hughes and her husband Tom, Lou Jammer III and his wife Danette, Holly Shore and her husband Dan, Connie Brodman and her husband Richard, Heidi Ferringo and her partner Kenneth Manuele, Laura Sherman and her husband Marc, Walter Allen Lee III and his wife Janet, Barbara Driscoll and her husband Greg, Audrey Clark-Pounder and her husband Richard, Richard (Rick) Lee and his wife Susan, William Lee and his wife Diane, and Mark Lee and his wife Michele. She is also survived by twenty-seven grandnieces and nephews, many of whom enjoyed spending time with her on the beach on Long Beach Island.

A Celebration of Life will be held in May at the Sea Shell Resort in Beach Haven, Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Her final resting place will be in the Hahn/ Jammer Family Plot in the Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, New Jersey. She will be dearly missed, and her memory will live on forever through her art.
