In Loving Memory of Bette Green Jenkins (1935-2025) of Stuart Florida and Cuttyhunk Island, Massachusetts. It is with profound love that we announce the passing of Bette Green Jenkins, who left this world surrounded by her devoted family on January 13, 2025, at the age of 89.
Bette’s spirit was one of adventure, resilience, and warmth, and she will be remembered as a trailblazer, a loving mother grandmother, great-grandmother, and a cherished friend. Bette was born on November 1, 1935, in Hobart, Indiana, to Earl and Emma Green. As a young girl, she moved to Stuart, Florida, where her family planted their roots. Bette’s father, Earl, was the proud owner of Martin County Hardware, and she graduated from Stuart High School before pursuing studies at Florida State University.
Even in her youth, Bette had a passion for adventure—she was an avid performing water skier, a testament to her love of the outdoors and her fearless spirit.
Her plans were temporarily set aside when her father suQered a heart attack, and Bette selflessly returned home to help care for her mother. This devotion to family would remain a hallmark of her life. At the age of 19, she met David Norris Jenkins, the love of her life, and together they built a
home and a family in Cuttyhunk Island, MA. Bette and David moved north to Cuttyhunk Island, MA There they raised their three children.
Bette’s family was her greatest joy. She is survived by her children: David (Lailey) of Bainbridge Island, WA, William (Ann) of Kenduskeag, Maine, and Claudia Adams (John) of Stuart, Florida. She leaves behind seven loving grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her legacy of love, adventure, and creativity. A woman of many talents, Bette was a skilled boater and a gifted quilter, known for her exquisite eye for color and design. Whether she was navigating the waters of Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound or designing intricate quilts, Bette approached life with a quiet determination and a mastery of whatever she set her mind to. She had an artist's soul—capturing the world around her in photographs, creating beauty wherever she went, and sharing her warmth with all who knew her. Bette’s smile could light up a room, and her generous spirit
touched everyone she met. She was a beacon of light—a second mother to many, radiating kindness, warmth, and unwavering support. Her adventurous heart never stopped seeking new horizons, and she taught those around her to embrace life fully, love deeply, and always face challenges with courage and grace.
Her passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew her, but her legacy will live on in the stories of adventure, the quilts she crafted, and the love she shared with her family. Bette’s life was a celebration of joy, grace, and gumption. She will forever be remembered with deep affection and
gratitude.
Rest in peace, Bette, knowing you are loved beyond measure and that your spirit will continue to guide us, as it always has. You are our hero in many ways.
There will be a Celebration of Life in June in Rochester,
